Dear Christopher Robin,

Growing up I became super obsessed with this cartoon about a chubby yellow teddy bear who wore the same red shirt and ate nothing but honey everyday.

I don’t know why. Maybe it was how he always stood by his friends. Or how he was always able to see the bright side of things even when there wasn’t really one. I used to be that kind of blind optimistic, bubbly, loyal person, but life can change you sometimes. I miss that dumb little chubby girl every now and again. She used to smile and laugh about everything.

When I heard about the Christopher Robin movie coming out, I was oddly excited. Not only because of the nostalgia of “Oh, I remember that show!” but because I think everyone needs to remember a time where life was simple. Children see the world as an adventure, as a magnificent place where they can discover and learn new things. As we get older we lose that, not on purpose, but because we become more burdened by the responsibilities of life. Smiles fade, laughter turns to tears. You worry more about what everyone else thinks of you, what they think you should do, instead of what brings you joy and what adventures you feel led to explore.

I think the lessons that silly little cartoon was trying to teach to kids wasn’t just for them, but for us. For us to remember.

Remember that life can still be an adventure.

Remember that it’s okay to look silly sometimes and laugh at yourself.

Remember to look for the rainbow after the storm has passed.

I really want to go see this movie before it leaves theaters. Maybe it will be a flop, I don’t know, but at least all those memories will flood back and I’ll remember to see life for the adventure that it truly can be.

Sincerely,

~Sophia
